The June 2023 edition of the Indonesian Update presents a main report regarding the polemics over the elimination of the Report on Acceptance of Campaign Fund Contributions (LPSDK) for the 2024 Elections. In fact, reporting on campaign fund donations is a very important step. This is done as part of the implementation of transparency to the public, as well as for the sake of creating honest, fair and integrity elections.
In the economic field, the Indonesian Update highlights the reflection of the achievement of economic growth on Indonesia’s income inequality. This is based on the achievement of Indonesia’s economic growth in the first quarter of 2023, which amounted to a level of 5.03 percent. However, this is not in accordance with the welfare figures of the population; for example, the data on achieving the poverty rate in Indonesia.
Even though economic growth has been at a level of above 5 percent for six consecutive quarters, the poverty rate as of September 2022 was recorded at a level of 9.57 percent. This means that there are still 26.36 million people living below the poverty line. Next, we discuss Indonesia’s efforts to realize Net Zero Emissions by 2060. This is a derivative of the Paris Agreement to reduce the increasingly real pace of climate change.
In the social field, the Indonesian Update raises cases of violence against women, especially in the household sphere (KDRT), which still occur to this day. Law enforcement officials (both the police and court judges) should have sensitivity and a victim’s perspective. In addition, the process of handling the law should involve the support of companions, such as referral institutions that usually carry out advocacy activities for women and victims. Furthermore, we also discuss gender mainstreaming in the 2020-2024 National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN).
It is hoped that the monthly publication of the Indonesian Update with current themes will help policy makers in government and business institutions – as well as academics, think tanks and elements of civil society, both domestic and foreign, to obtain actual information and contextual analysis on economic conditions. political, social, and legal in Indonesia, as well as an understanding of public policy in Indonesia.
Happy reading.
