The October 2026 edition of the Indonesian Update features a main report titled “Red and White Village Cooperative: What is New on the Market?” This article shall examine the Red and White Village Cooperative program, a government initiative to strengthen the village economy. The report shall examine the program’s initiatives and challenges in its implementation, particularly those related to institutional governance, business sustainability, and its potential contribution to strengthening the village economy.
In the economic field, the Indonesian Update features two articles discussing tax governance and accelerating the energy transition. The article, “Analysis of the Special Audit of Tax Restitution by the Minister of Finance,” discusses the special audit policy for tax restitution and its implications for oversight, accountability, and governance of state revenues. Meanwhile, the article, “Pursuing 100 GWp Solar Power Plants to Strengthen the Energy Transition in Indonesia,” examines the ambition to develop 100 GWp solar power plants (PLTS) as part of efforts to accelerate the energy transition in Indonesia, including the various challenges in achieving this target.
In the legal field, the Indonesian Update includes two articles addressing the fulfillment of the right to water and improving the governance of correctional institutions. The article, “The Right to Water in Data Center Development,” discusses the relationship between data center development and the fulfillment of the right to water, particularly in the context of resource needs, environmental sustainability, and the state’s responsibility to ensure public access to water. Meanwhile, the article, “Improving the Governance of Luxury Prisons,” examines the issue of correctional institution governance, particularly regarding the unequal treatment of inmates and the importance of ensuring the principles of justice and equality in the implementation of the correctional system.
In the social sector, this edition presents two analyses on protecting the mental health of child victims of sexual violence and strengthening governance for suicide prevention. The article “Guarding Mental Health Recovery Guarantees for Child Victims of Sexual Violence” discusses the importance of ensuring access to mental health recovery services for child victims of sexual violence, including through strengthening protection systems, mentoring, and inter-agency coordination. Meanwhile, the article “Behind the Suicide Cases in Bali: From Stigma to Commitment to Improving Prevention Governance” examines the issue of suicide in relation to social stigma and the challenges of mental health management, as well as the importance of commitment and coordination between various parties in strengthening governance for suicide prevention.
Through the monthly publication of the Indonesian Update which raises various strategic and current issues, it is hoped that this report can contribute to policy makers in government institutions, business actors, academics, researchers, think tanks, and civil society, both at home and abroad, to obtain contextual analysis of the political, legal, social, and economic dynamics in Indonesia.
