The July 2026 edition of the Indonesian Update features a feature report titled “Civil Liberties in the Human Rights Bill.” This article examines the dynamics of the drafting of the Human Rights Bill (RUU HAM), particularly in relation to the protection of civil liberties, and highlights the challenges and opportunities in strengthening respect for, protection of, and fulfillment of human rights in Indonesia.
In the social sector, the Indonesian Update addresses public health issues through the article “BGSi for Disease Prevention in Indonesia,” which touches on the importance of implementing an evidence-based approach in disease prevention efforts in Indonesia. Furthermore, the article “Potential Application of Behavior Change Models in the Free Nutritional Meal Program” examines the opportunities for applying behavior change approaches to increase the effectiveness of the Free Nutritional Meal Program.
In the political field, this edition presents the article “Safe Campus, Free Academics” which discusses the importance of maintaining academic freedom and creating a safe, inclusive, and conducive campus environment for the development of science and freedom of expression in higher education.
In the economic field, this edition contains two analyses related to institutional governance and fiscal accountability. The article “The Dynamics of State-Owned Enterprise Retrenchment from an Institutional Perspective” discusses the implications of the State-Owned Enterprise retrenchment policy for institutional governance and the national economy. Meanwhile, the article “Analysis of the Accountability of the 2025 State Budget” examines the accountability aspect of state financial management through an evaluation of the implementation of the 2025 State Budget.
Through the monthly publication of the Indonesian Update which raises various strategic and current issues, it is hoped that this report can contribute to policy makers in government institutions, business actors, academics, researchers, think tanks, and civil society, both at home and abroad, to obtain contextual analysis of the political, legal, social, and economic dynamics in Indonesia, while enriching understanding of the challenges and direction of public policy going forward.
