The Indonesian Update – Volume XX, No.2 – February 2026 (English Version)

The February 2026 edition of the Indonesian Update features a main report entitled “The Potential  Economic Impact of the United States Takeover of Greenland on Indonesia’s Strategy and Recommendations Policy.” This report discusses its potential dynamics of global geopolitics and its influence on the stability of international economy, including the implications for Indonesia. This edition of the Indonesian Update tries to map its possible impacts on trade, investment, energy, and the global supply chains, while at the same time formulating strategies and policy recommendations the Government should consider in strengthening the resilience of national economy amidst global uncertainty .

On politics, this edition raises two strategic issues. First, the article entitled “The Promise of Meritocracy and the Practices of Patronage: the Reflections on the Prabowo Era” which examines the tensions between the commitment for meritocracy and the practices of patronage in the Government, as well as the implications for the quality of democracy and the professionalism of bureaucracy . The second analysis is entitled “The Plans of Changing the Parliamentary Threshold for the 2029 Elections”, which examines the urgency, argumentation, and political consequences political of the discourse on changing the the parliamentary threshold and its impact on party systems party, political representation, and the stability of the Government .

In the field of law, the Indonesian Update Indonesia discusses “The Palm Oil Project and Indigenous Communities in Papua”,  highlighting the relations between investment, rights to land, and the protection of right to public customs in the framework of basic human rights. In addition to that, the article “Human Rights in Indonesia after Joining the Board of Peace” reviews the commitment to development and the challenges in the advancement of human rights in Indonesia in the context of dynamics politics. These two articles confirm the importance of the supremacy of law.

In the social field, this edition raises two big themes. The first article “Indonesia’s Direction in the Face of the Trend of Aging Population”,  discusses the increasing challenges in demography, including their implications for social safety net, employment, and health policy health. The second article ” The Threats of Being Lonely in Urban Environments” highlights lonely as public health issues and social issues that are increasingly relevant in the middle of urbanization. It also confirms the importance of adaptive and inclusive policies to address social and welfare issues.

The monthly publication of the Indonesian Update aims to help policy makers in the Government and the business world, as well as academics, researchers, think tanks, and the civil society, get information and contextual analyses on the economic , political , legal and social dynamics in Indonesia, while at the same time enriching the understanding of public policy challenges in the country.
